Team Offsites & Away Days

“Lead Happy did a fantastic job of creating a bespoke away day and facilitating many excellent conversations between colleagues who often don’t get to spend time together. The session enabled so much self and group reflection.”

Every team is unique, so its development should be too.

Your team does not need to be sent off to herd geese or build a raft from oil drums and old tooth picks (not yet, anyway).  Fun though it would be, it’s not going to shift your team’s day-to-day dynamic.

All teams need time away from the noise to think properly, connect honestly and move forward together. To do that properly, they need a genuinely connective experience.

Lead Happy Teams designs and facilitates team offsites and away days that are purposeful, energising and properly human, because we’re desiging for each unique team and what it needs right now.

Sometimes the work cannot happen in the place where the patterns were created.

The office, whether physical or virtual,  is full of cues.

Roles, habits and interruptions. Old conversations, inbox pressure – even people just passing the meeting room window.

That environment has its place, but it rarely creates the best conditions for deeper thinking, honest connection or a genuine reset.

A well-designed offsite gives people permission to step out of business as usual and into a different kind of conversation. Changing the environment in which people come together is one of the most fundamental aspects of helping the shift you need to actually happen.

The location is part of the experience

Where you gather tells people something before anyone says a word.

The room, the light, the journey, the welcome, the seating, the pace, the food, the way people arrive and the way the day unfolds all communicate intention.

A good venue can help people feel open, focused and ready, while a poor space can drain the energy before the work begins.

We help you think through the location and the space because it’s not just an admin detail – it is part of the message and it communicates a lot.

A great offsite creates a temporary alternative world

For a short time, your team gets to step into a different rhythm – different surroundings, new conversations, different energy and renewed expectations.

This all matters because transformation needs contrast.

People notice when thought has gone into an experience. They feel when the day has been designed with care and they are more likely to give more of themselves when the organisation has clearly invested in creating the right conditions.

If you want people to think differently, meet them somewhere that helps them do exactly that.

“I think the work that Lead Happy does is really special. You can tell that the sessions are tailor-made to the group which makes it a stand-out experience to others I have been part of. I got a real sense that you had taken time to get to know us as individuals and utilised that knowledge to deliver the session.”

What makes a Lead Happy Teams Experience different?

No copy-and-paste & no filler

Trademarked proven frameworks

Designed intentionally for everyone

We design the experience around the people, the purpose and the moment. A team offsite should never feel like a random collection of agenda items. So, we start with three questions:

Who is in the room?
What does the team need from the time together?
What should feel different afterwards?

Then we design the experience around the answers.
That might mean deeper connection, sharper alignment, a new strategy conversation, better collaboration, braver challenge, clearer priorities, renewed energy or simply helping a team remember how good it can be when everyone is properly present.

From 90-minute spark to full-day experience

We support your offsite in different ways. You may want us to design and facilitate the whole day, or you may already have an event planned and need one brilliant 90-minute session to lift the room.

You may want a half-day reset, a full-day team experience, a two-day leadership offsite, a keynote-style provocation, an energising masterclass-style session, or a practical team workshop inside a bigger event.

We can flex around the shape you need and we will be direct about what we think will make the biggest difference.

The constant is that the experience should feel alive, transformative and bespoke to you and your team.

Away doesn’t have to mean far away

Getting away from the office is powerful, but sometimes it’s just not possible.

Budgets, diaries, travel, accessibility, operational pressure or the size of the group can mean the best option is to work on site or virtually.

That is fine, and we can still help you create a different kind of space.

We think carefully about room layout, flow, pace, materials, movement, energy and how to make a familiar setting feel more intentional. The point is not just about distance, it’s about deliberate design that creates the right environment. And that goes for our designed-for-digital spaces too.

We can help you choose and create the right environment

We have designed people-experiences for groups of five to hundreds.

That means we know what to look for.

Optimum space, the right layout, natural energy and light. Good flow, accessibility and breakout options all matter. The arrival experience is key, as is food that doesn’t  send everyone to sleep.

A room that supports the work instead of fighting it heightens the impact of the great work your team can do in an off-site day.

You bring the ambition, we’ll advise on creating the conditions to match it.

BEFORE THE EVENT

Before the day, we make it purposeful.

A great offsite starts long before people arrive.

We work with you to understand the reason for the day, the people attending, the mood in the team, the outcomes you want and the practical constraints we need to design around.

That might include stakeholder conversations, team insight, agenda design, venue thinking, session design, speaker flow, materials, event rhythm and the moments that will make the experience feel memorable.

We are looking for the thread – the idea that holds the day together and makes it feel like one clear experience rather than a list of sessions.

“The personal touches and different activities (and the party poppers!) made the day unique and memorable.”

CLAIRE NICHOLLS – HR ADMINISTRATOR, OXERA

DURING THE EVENT

During the day, we hold the energy and the work.

A Lead Happy offsite can include facilitation, storytelling, team exercises, reflection, keynote-style input, creative activities, personality and preference insights, leadership conversations, group working, live polling, future thinking, practical tools and moments of surprise.

  • Some parts may feel high energy
  • Some parts may feel reflective
  • Some parts may bring people closer
  • Some parts may help the team name what needs to change

The mix depends on the purpose and our craft is in knowing what the room needs next. This is what so many of our clients report back as the key difference between what they’ve done before and what they now do, with Lead Happy Teams.

“The experience was incredible. A lot of effort has gone into planning the day for us, ensuring the day was bespoke. Just goes to show that it isn’t just a business for you –  you actually cared for our needs. Huge kudos for that!”

JAI KALE – HR OFFICER, OXERA

AFTER THE EVENT

After the offsite, the day needs somewhere to land.

A great away day should be remembered and people should leave with something they can actually use when they return to their day-to-day.

That typically includes:

  • A clearer direction
  • A shared story
  • Stronger relationships
  • Better agreements
  • New energy
  • Practical next steps
  • A way to keep the conversation alive

Depending on the scope, we can help shape follow-up actions, team commitments, communication points, reflection prompts or future sessions. After all, the day is only successful if it changes what happens next.

“It was great to get together as a team following the recent changes, as I work at home the majority of the time I don’t get chance to see people in group settings. It was brilliant to see how relaxed and positive people were, which I haven’t experienced at previous events.”

AMELIA OWEN – MTS BRAND MANAGER, MICHELDEVER

  • Do you run team offsites and away days?

    Yes.

We design and deliver team offsites, senior leadership offsites, strategy days, team reset days, connection experiences, guest sessions within larger events, and specific parts of a wider agenda.

Some teams need space to reconnect. Some need to make better decisions. Some need to reset how they communicate, challenge, collaborate or lead together.

We help you work out what the day needs to achieve, then design an experience that gets people there.

  • Is this just a team away day?

    No.

A good away day can be useful. A Lead Happy Teams offsite goes further.

We use the time together to shift understanding, behaviour, connection and commitment. There may be joy, creativity, conversation, colour, laughter and surprise. There will also be challenge, honesty, structure and clear outcomes.

The point is not for people to have a nice day out and forget it by Monday.

The point is for the team to come back seeing themselves, each other and the work differently.

  • Can you help us plan the agenda?

    Yes.

We can design the whole experience, shape part of the agenda, or work alongside your internal team to make sure the day flows properly.

A strong offsite needs more than a list of agenda items. It needs rhythm, purpose, energy, space to think, space to talk, and a clear sense of what people need to leave with.

We help you avoid the classic away day trap: too much content, not enough conversation, and no real shift by the end.

  • Can you help us choose the right venue or space?

    Yes.

The space matters. It affects how people arrive, how they think, how they connect, and what kinds of conversations become possible.

We can advise on venue, room layout, flow, atmosphere and the practical details that help the experience land well.

Sometimes that means getting away from the office completely. Sometimes it means making the best of a space you already have.

The right environment helps people step out of normal patterns and into better ones.

  • Can you run the experience onsite?

    Yes.

Offsite is often powerful because it creates distance from the usual noise. It gives people room to think differently and connect differently.

Onsite can also work well when the space is right and the purpose is clear.

We will help you think through what kind of environment the work needs. Sometimes that means a carefully chosen external venue. Sometimes it means transforming the room you already have into something that feels different enough to support the work.

  • Do you use games and activities?

    When they serve the work.

We are playful and creative because humans learn through experience, story, surprise, emotion and connection.

That does not mean forced fun, awkward icebreakers or making senior people do strange things for the sake of it.

Every element needs to earn its place. If an activity helps people see something, feel something, practise something or shift something, we may use it. If it does not, we will not.

  • Can an offsite actually change how a team works?

Yes, when it is designed properly.

An offsite can give people the space to say what needs saying, understand each other differently, reset expectations and agree how they want to work together from here.

The day itself matters. What happens before and after it matters too.

That is why we design around outcomes, not just activities. We want people to leave with more than a good memory. We want them to leave with clearer commitments, better conversations and practical shifts they can take back into everyday work.
